In Human Design, the current positions of the planets are assigned to the 64 gates of the Rave Mandala. Laying these transits over your birth chart shows where additional activations are appearing right now. That can explain why certain themes come to the foreground for a while. But it isn’t a second birth chart or a new identity.
What are transits?
A transit is the current activation of a gate or line by a planet. Because the positions keep changing, this pattern only lasts for a while. Your own chart stays the same: your Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile and birth definition aren’t recalculated just because additional connections appear in the transit overlay.
Sun and Earth: the slower background tone
The Sun moves into a new gate roughly every five and a half to six days; the Earth sits opposite it in the mandala. That’s why Human Design often treats the Sun–Earth axis as the overarching theme of a transit period. The Moon moves through the gates much faster and changes the transit picture several times a day. But that doesn’t mean the Moon automatically controls your mood.
The original Human Design teaching also works with the concept of neutrinos and gives the Sun a special significance. That’s part of the system’s cosmology and shouldn’t be mistaken for a scientifically confirmed explanation of why people subjectively notice a transit.
When a transit brings the opposite gate
If you have a gate in your birth chart and a transit temporarily activates the opposite gate of the same channel, a complete channel appears in the combined transit chart. As a result, centers can also appear connected in the overlay for a while. This additional definition belongs to the transit field, not to your permanent birth definition.
Especially in undefined centers, an activation like this can be more noticeable, because there’s no consistent definition of your own there. But how strongly you’ll notice something can’t be predicted from the graphic alone. A transit can be very clear, barely noticeable or only make sense in hindsight.
Observe transits — don’t live by them
- Use them as context: when a theme suddenly becomes very present, the transit can offer an extra perspective on it.
- Don’t turn them into a scheduler: a transit is no reason to time a conversation, a breakup, a purchase or any other important decision for a particular window.
- Keep birth design and transit separate: whatever appears defined in the overlay for a while doesn’t become a permanent trait of yours.
- Stick with Strategy and Authority: even when a transit sets off strong dynamics, it doesn’t decide what’s right for you.

Do transits change my type or my authority?
No. Your Type and Authority belong to your birth chart. Additional centers or channels can appear defined in the transit overlay, but that doesn’t create a new permanent Type or a new personal Authority.
How often should I look at transits?
As often as it helps you observe — not out of obligation. The Sun–Earth axis sets a slower background tone over several days, while the Moon and other planets keep changing the overall picture. So a weekly look can make just as much sense as a close look at a particular day.
Is a difficult day always a transit?
No. Daily life, relationships, sleep, health, stress and many other factors affect how you feel. Within the Human Design model, a transit is one possible additional layer — not the explanation for everything that happens on a given day.
Your design is still the starting point
Transits can show what else is in the field right now. But to understand why you respond to the same moment in time differently from someone else, your own birth chart has to be clear first.
