In Human Design, the year has its own rhythm: the Sun moves through all 64 gates of the Rave Mandala one after another and spends about 5–6 days in each. That means everyone has the same Sun activation in transit at the same time. How strongly you notice it and what it sets off in you depends on your own chart. The wheel below is already set to the current gate week — spin through the year from there, forward and back.
A note on accuracy. We calculate the times of change using a well-established astronomical approximation (the same method as the “gate of the day” on the home page) — they can differ by a few minutes from high-precision ephemerides; date and time are shown in your time zone. On the day of a change, the old gate still applies until the exact moment. The weekly texts describe the theme of the current Sun activation — not your personal chart, and not a prediction of how you’ll experience this time.
Why does Human Design have a calendar of its own?
Your chart is calculated from the positions of the planets at your birth — but the planets keep moving. The Sun works especially well for a yearly calendar, because it moves through the Rave Mandala in a steady, recurring rhythm and changes to the next gate roughly every 5–6 days. That way, the Human Design year can be read as a sequence of 64 Sun activations: the same order every year, just with slightly shifted times of change.
It’s important to put this in context: the Sun gate is a transit activation that’s in the sky for everyone at the same time. What it changes for you depends on your birth chart. If you have this gate activated yourself, a theme you already know gets extra emphasis for a while. If your chart has the opposite gate of a channel, the Sun can complete that channel for as long as the transit lasts. These are exactly the kinds of overlaps the transit calculator shows you.
The Rave New Year
The Human Design year doesn’t start on January 1 but when the Sun enters Gate 41 — usually around January 22. In Human Design, Gate 41 is considered the start codon: the gate where the year’s sequence of experience begins again. Many people in the Human Design world celebrate this moment as the Rave New Year and use the days before it as a natural time for wrapping things up and dreaming — a lovely, low-key alternative to New Year’s resolutions. - As a weekly prompt: see which gate is current and take its theme with you through the week as a question to observe — not as a rule, but as an experiment.
- With your own chart: do you have the current gate activated yourself? Then a theme you already know from your chart gets extra emphasis for a while. The transit calculator shows you, updated daily, what the whole sky is setting off in your chart.
- As time travel: spin the wheel to your birthday or another important date — or type it into the search and the wheel jumps right there.
- As a place to come back to: just stop by now and then — the calendar always opens at the current gate week. A bookmark is all you need.

Does the gate of the week apply to everyone in the same way?
The Sun is in the same gate for everyone at the same time. But what this activation sets off in you isn’t the same for everyone: that depends on which gates and channels are already activated or defined in your birth chart.
How is this different from the “cosmic weather”?
The calendar only follows the Sun — the biggest and most regular timekeeper. The full cosmic weather includes all 13 activations in the current sky (including the Moon and the planets) and is combined with your chart in the transit calculator.
Why do the dates shift slightly from year to year?
For the same reason leap years exist: a solar year isn’t exactly 365 days long. So the gate changes shift by up to a day — the calendar recalculates them for each year instead of claiming fixed dates.
Is the calendar a horoscope?
No. It says nothing about good or bad days and makes no predictions. It shows which gate the Sun is currently activating in transit. That doesn’t determine how you’ll experience this time; when it comes to decisions, your own way through Strategy and Authority is what counts.
Your design stays the same
Transits don’t change your birth chart. In the overlay, the Sun, Moon and planets can temporarily activate gates, complete channels and define centers — but these influences never become part of your own definition. There’s no reading about the quality of the time; the readings explain your chart. And your chart is exactly what you bring to every time.
